Currently Listening To--October 2011

Rolling Stones Tongue Rolling Stones Tongue

September was really a busy month and I really didn't get to post what I was listening to. For a number reasons I was listening to English rock band, The Rolling Stones. Even though I was born in and grew up in the 80's I didn't listen to the music. I heard it, but didn't really listen to it. I grew up on classic rock and golden oldies music. The Rolling Stones have always been a memorable band for me, especially when it comes to road trips in my mid to late twenties. So last month and this month its the Stones.

Cliqhop IDM Icon Cliqhop IDM Icon

I have been long time listener of SomaFM. I have a few stations which listen to nonstop. For a while now I have been listening to "Cliqhop IDM"; Experimental techno, also known as Intelligent dance music (IDM). This is music composed digitally, creating sounds from bits rather than with bits and the instrument of choice of most IDM artists is a laptop computer. Thank you SomaFM for your excellent stations. Please remember SomaFM is entirely listener-supported. Your financial support to keep them on the air. Please join the thousands of other supporters who make SomaFM's broadcasts possible.

Jan Švankmajer

Alice-1988 Alice-1988

Jan Švankmajer -born 4 September 1934, is a Czech filmmaker and artist whose work spans several media. He is a self-labeled surrealist known for his surreal animations and features, which have greatly influenced other artists such as Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, the Brothers Quay, and many others. Švankmajer has gained a reputation over several decades for his distinctive use of stop-motion technique, and his ability to make surreal, nightmarish, and yet somehow funny pictures. He continues to make films in Prague. Švankmajer's trademarks include very exaggerated sounds, often creating a very strange effect in all eating scenes. He often uses fast-motion sequences when people walk or interact. His movies often involve inanimate objects being brought to life through stop-motion. Many of his films also include clay objects in stop-motion, otherwise known as clay animation. Food is a favourite subject and medium. Do check out his work. It is very eye-opening and jaw-dropping… literally. It's really excellent. -Credited Sources; Wikipedia.
